 School Theme for 2025/26: “Good Overcomes Evil”

 PICK UP & DROP OFF ROUTINE

 Morning: When driving your children to school, please either drop them off at the walkway from the parking lot (next to the flagpole) and have them walk to the door and buzz in, or park in the parking lot and walk them to the door (Park on the driveway, past the pavement, please do not park on the pavement the busses turn around on) But we ask that you walk them to the main door/foyer where a staff member will greet you and the staff member will walk them to their classroom.

 Afternoon: When picking up your children everyone must call or email the school by 2:45 pm, so that we can let the teachers know and have the students come down to the main foyer when the bell rings.

 Parents/guardians of students in Grade 1-4 must come to the main entrance door to meet your children. Parents/guardians of students in Grade 5 – 8, if you park on the driveway and we can visibly see you we will dismiss the older children that way, from the main foyer. We are trying to eliminate students walking across the driveway/parking lot with cars coming and going.

Thank you for your cooperation on this. As we grow in numbers, our main concern is to keep everyone safe and accounted for.

 Please call or email the school office if there are any changes to the daily bus schedule for your children. The office needs to be aware of who is going where or being picked up, even if your child has his/her own phone. This is a liability issue. So please ALWAYS call the office. In the mornings, if your child(ren) is/are not attending please email or call the office to confirm. In the afternoon if your child(ren) is/are not on the bus please call the office to confirm. The office has a communication routine so that the teachers, bus drivers and administration are all on the same page and every child is safely accounted for. Thank you.

Payment Reminder:

 Water Bottles: Each child needs to have a labelled, FULL water bottle sent to school each day. We have multiple Sasi Water filling stations where students can refill them when needed.

From the Bus/Transportation Committee: We praise God for the excellent bus drivers He has given us and for their safety mindedness. We trust the benefits of our transportation system will be appreciated by all and remembered in your prayers. To help the younger children find their bus at the end of the school day, each bus will have a picture in the window. Drivers and teachers will help children find their correct buses as noted below:

 Children should be at the road 5 minutes prior to their pickup time. It is recommended that parents of students in Gr. 5 and under be home when the bus drops off their child(ren). If other permanent arrangements are desired, those arrangements need to be made by contacting the Transportation Committee bus rep for your bus. Please be aware that buses may arrive early when dropping students off at home (sports practices, parents picking up their children etc.). Anaphylactic Policy applies to the buses also. We have children on the buses who are allergic to nut and dairy products.

 COMMUNICATION FROM THE OFFICE:

 The website Thunder Bay Christian School / Thunder Bay, Ontario (tbcs.school) and FB will be maintained weekly with general school news and events; school wide forms will be available on the website. Link to announcements will be emailed weekly (Friday) to all members and families.

• Click “announcements” on the blue banner at the top of the webpage, for weekly announcements.     

• Further down the webpage, in the “documents” section; calendars, newsletters, and forms (milk forms, hot lunch forms) will be posted for you to print off.

 Throughout the year we will send physical copies of a school newsletter to all members.

 Expect announcements to be emailed every Friday. Class announcements will be communicated via Seesaw. Other materials that need to go home will be sent with the oldest child in every family.

Seasaw: Links to connect to your child’s journal were emailed to parents. Please check your email junk folder for these links and connect to each of your children’s teachers, so that the teachers can easily communicate with parents. This is an important, main form of communication for the teachers. If you have more than one child in one class, the link may be used more than once. If you have not seen and can not find your email link, please email the office.

Junior Soccer: Students in grades 4-6 who signed up for soccer will be practicing Monday at lunch and the tournament is to take place Thursday, September 17^th at Chapples during the school day. Transportation will be provided with busses leaving the school around 9am and returning around 2pm. Please return your submission prior to the tournament. 

Voice Lessons: Emmy Armstrong will be offering voice lessons again this year. Please contact Emmy or email the office if you are interested.

Vaccine clinic grades 7 & 8: Vaccination clinic is to be held Thursday, November 19^th, with a second date to be decided. Information packages were sent home with grade 7 & 8 students today.  Consent is to be filled out online or by phone to the TBDHU, and please direct questions/concerns to the TBDHU.  TBDHU is asking all parents/guardians to complete and submit the consent form even if the student will not be vaccinated at school and this option is now included on the online consent form.  https://consent.tbdhu.com/en

Milk: This year milk will be sold at school again beginning in October. The office will be sending forms with updated prices and information in the coming weeks.

Use Of Telephone: Students are allowed to use school phones, ONLY IN CASE OF EMERGENCY, with the permission of the child’s teacher. STUDENTS ARE NOT to use school phones to arrange parties, social events and sleepovers. These matters should be arranged at home. We ask for your cooperation in this matter.

Library News: The library has undergone some big changes and is now located in the old computer lab. Library day is once again scheduled to take place every Wednesday and the first day is planned for the first week of October. Huge thanks for our volunteer librarians who have put a lot of work into moving and organizing the library these last few weeks!

Twice As Nice News: Please click the link below, or head to the school website and click "volunteer" to sign up for shift at Twice as Nice! There are many options for slots and even an hour or two helps tremendously! The pile that needs to be sorted is massive and many hands make light work!

The first day of school is quickly approaching!! We have been busy preparing for the students' return Tuesday, and we are looking forward to the halls being filled again!

A few important details:

• Students are expected to be in their classroom by 8:50am this year. If dropping your children off in the morning, please make sure they are at school on time. 
• The opening assembly will take place on the first day, September 8th at 9:15, in the school gymnasium. Previously we had planned for this to be taking place at First Church, so please note this change in venue. Due to this limited space, there will be standing room only with limited seating for those unable to stand.  
• Bus drivers have contacted parents with pickup times. If you have not been in contact with your bus driver yet, please reach out to the school. 
• Emails were sent out last week and back in June with the list of supplies needed to purchase. Please make sure your children have what they need for their first week back. Contact the school if you have not received the list.
• The Universal Learning Centre (ULC) is up and running, directed by Lauren Allam, with a few minor finishing touches remaining. We are excited to welcome this program to our school and have the children enjoy and benefit from this space!
• Our Physical Education program will look a little different this year with a dedicated PE teacher, Melissa Staal, teaching all classes! We are excited to have her in this position, and for the students to have this opportunity!

 *SOCCER: The SSSAA soccer tournaments will be taking place in  mid-September and we would like to gauge interest from the students.  Please ask your child(ren) in grades 4-8 if they might be interested in joining this team and let the school office know ASAP as we will  need to register the teams on September 8th and begin practicing together immediately. 

We've also made some changes to our daily schedule, with 3 nutrition/recess breaks instead of 2. The schedule for this school year is as follows:

 Tuition Reminder: All outstanding tuition payments for the 25/26 school year due by June 30th. 

 Congratulations!  to Jeremy and Florence Bakker on the birth of their baby boy, Calvin, and to Andrew and Amy Janssens on the birth of their baby boy, Perry! Every good and perfect gift is from above, praise the Lord! 

Elementary track and field: The SSSAA meet is June 16 and 17 at 9:30 am. Since our school year has ended parents will be responsible for getting their kids to and from the stadium. We encourage students to come out and cheer on our athletes, but because of the strict supervision rules from SSSAA, our limited coaches cannot be responsible for any who are NOT a member of the TBCS team. If your child isn’t a registered athlete, a parent will have to stay and supervise them.

**Emails with further details regarding events and times have been sent home to grades 4+ for those students taking part in this event.

Planning for next year: The school is currently budgeting and planning classes for the 26/27 school year under the assumption that current families and students will be returning, unless we hear otherwise.
