Spiritual Life @ TBCS
This past week in Chapel, both the Lower Elementary and Upper Elementary students learned the truth that being kind is one way we can overcome evil with good! This year, our Lower Elementary Chapels will start with a big question of the day, and this week the question was: “Who or what is God?” One of our Grade 3 students raised her hand and confidently shared “God is the Creator of everyone and everything!”
We then went on to read and discuss Ephesians 4:32 “Be kind and compassionate to one another, forgiving each other, just as in Christ God forgave you.” Mrs. Awosika used a mirror and a flashlight to demonstrate the way God wants us to reflect His kindness to others, and highlighted examples of ways we can be kind.
Pastor Piper came to speak at our first Upper Elementary and High School Chapel. He also spoke on reflecting God’s kindness and used the true story of Naaman’s servant girl and the kindness she showed to a Master who was responsible for the death of all her family members, as a wonderful example and challenge to us.
Lost and Found: Hoodies! We have MANY hoodies in our lost and found right now! Please have your children take a look through the pile and take what belongs to them! Items not claimed will eventually be donated to Twice As Nice.
Membership Meeting: The Fall membership meeting is planned for November 2nd at 8pm in the school gymnasium. All members (this includes all tuition-paying parents) are encouraged to attend this meeting to vote in our new board members for the year.
Career Day: On October 13th, students in grades 1-8 are invited to come to school as a professional or career role of their choice. Examples include doctors, nurses, farmers, police officers, engineers, athletes, artists, chefs, pilots, and many more! We hope this helps build a sense of excitement and awareness of future educational and career opportunities!

We are also seeking four TBCS alumni to participate as guest speakers to deliver a brief presentation, share about your career journey, and participate in a short Q & A session.
Mom’s Pantry Fundraiser: The grade 8 students are beginning their fundraising for their Grade 8 Toronto Trip! First up is the Mom’s Pantry Fundraiser. If you would like to contribute to a specific student’s earnings, please contact that student for a form, or order online at www.momspantry.ca by searching for the school’s name, or using the order number 420249 and group passcode 24823. Please also be sure to enter the student’s name you’d like to support. All proceeds sold by each student will go towards reducing their total cost of the trip. Orders are due back by October 23rd and will be delivered the beginning of December.
School Supplies Payment: A reminder that $25.00/student must be submitted via email to cash@tbcs.school, cash or cheque made payable to TBCS Student Fund. This payment helps cover costs of classroom supplies such as pencils, erasers, white-out, etc.
PICK UP & DROP OFF ROUTINE
Morning: When driving your children to school, please either drop them off at the walkway from the parking lot (next to the flagpole) and have them walk to the door and buzz in, or park in the parking lot and walk them to the door (Park on the driveway, past the pavement, please do not park on the pavement the busses turn around on) But we ask that you walk them to the main door/foyer where a staff member will greet you and the staff member will walk them to their classroom.
Afternoon: When picking up your children everyone must call or email the school by 2:45 pm, so that we can let the teachers know and have the students come down to the main foyer when the bell rings.
Parents/guardians of students in Grade 1-4 must come to the main entrance door to meet your children. Parents/guardians of students in Grade 5 – 8, if you park on the driveway and we can visibly see you we will dismiss the older children that way, from the main foyer. We are trying to eliminate students walking across the driveway/parking lot with cars coming and going.
Thank you for your cooperation on this. As we grow in numbers, our main concern is to keep everyone safe and accounted for.
Please call or email the school office if there are any changes to the daily bus schedule for your children. The office needs to be aware of who is going where or being picked up, even if your child has his/her own phone. This is a liability issue. So please ALWAYS call the office. In the mornings, if your child(ren) is/are not attending please email or call the office to confirm. In the afternoon if your child(ren) is/are not on the bus please call the office to confirm. The office has a communication routine so that the teachers, bus drivers and administration are all on the same page and every child is safely accounted for. Thank you.

Water Bottles: Each child needs to have a labelled water bottle sent to school each day. We have multiple Sasi Water filling stations where students can refill them when needed. We do NOT stock disposable cups.
From the Bus/Transportation Committee: We praise God for the excellent bus drivers He has given us and for their safety mindedness. We trust the benefits of our transportation system will be appreciated by all and remembered in your prayers. To help the younger children find their bus at the end of the school day, each bus will have a picture in the window. Drivers and teachers will help children find their correct buses as noted below:

Children should be at the road 5 minutes prior to their pickup time. It is recommended that parents of students in Gr. 5 and under be home when the bus drops off their child(ren). If other permanent arrangements are desired, those arrangements need to be made by contacting the Transportation Committee bus rep for your bus. Please be aware that buses may arrive early when dropping students off at home (sports practices, parents picking up their children etc.). Anaphylactic Policy applies to the buses also. We have children on the buses who are allergic to nut and dairy products.
Communication from the office: Expect announcements to be emailed every Friday. Class announcements will be communicated via Seesaw. Other materials that need to go home will be sent with the oldest child in every family.

Vaccine Clinic grades 7 & 8: Vaccination clinic is to be held Thursday, November 19th, with a second date to be decided. Information packages were sent home with grade 7 & 8 students today. Consent is to be filled out online or by phone to the TBDHU. Please do not submit consent to the school office and direct your questions to the TBDHU vaccination department. TBDHU is asking all parents/guardians to complete and submit the consent form even if the student will not be immunized at school and this option is now included on the online consent form. https://consent.tbdhu.com/en
Parent Volunteers Needed: We are hoping to have a few parent volunteers to help during MAP testing between September 21st and October 9th. If you are able to help organize and guide the students on their iPod’s during the test please let the school office know.
Cross Country Running: Participating students in Grades 4-8 will continue with practices Mondays and Thursdays after school until 4:00. The meet is to be held October 7th at Kamview. More details with times will be emailed closer to the date.
Milk:Milk will commence Monday, October 5th.
Use Of Telephone: Students are allowed to use school phones, ONLY IN CASE OF EMERGENCY, with the permission of the child’s teacher. STUDENTS ARE NOT to use school phones to arrange parties, social events and sleepovers. These matters should be arranged at home. We ask for your cooperation in this matter.
Library News: The library has undergone some big changes and is now located in the old computer lab. Library day is once again planned for every Wednesday and will begin in October.
Twice As Nice News: Please click the link below, or head to the school website and click "volunteer" to sign up for shift at Twice as Nice! There are many options for slots and even an hour or two helps tremendously! The pile that needs to be sorted is massive and many hands make light work!

Spiritual Life @ TBCS
This past Wednesday was our first day of Bible Study Buddies for students in JK-Grade 8. Each buddy group received an activity package based on our theme verse of Romans 12:21: “Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good.” The students were very excited to find out who their new buddies would be, and for the first time the Grade 3’s and 4’s have been given the opportunity to be the leaders within their groups. It is always a delight to watch students opening the Word of God together, praying together, and growing spiritually and relationally.
Our new High School Discipleship Training was launched this past Wednesday as well! At the end of last year, our Grade 9-12 students expressed the desire to go deeper in their faith and to know the God of the Bible better. Our director of Spiritual Life, Mrs. Awosika, is implementing different ways of getting the students to engage with scripture and the Holy Spirit. This past Wednesday, the High School students were organized into groups and given scriptures to study and break down into simple language that even a young child could understand. The groups then presented their findings to the rest of the students and discussed further how we can actually apply these scriptures to our lives. It was a fruitful time studying and learning together, praise the Lord!

Soccer: The intermediate team had a great time at the SSSAA Tournament held Thursday! The Boys’ team tied two, won one and lost one, and the Girls’ team won two and lost two. Yet another great job representing TBCS! Well done Eagles!!
TCH Football: Several of our high school boys are playing for the Hammerskjold high school football teams. Last night, the Junior boys’ team won against Westgate 47-14, with Mason Mol scoring a Birthday Touchdown!! Congratulations boys, well done!!

- Further down the webpage, in the “documents” section; calendars, newsletters, and forms (milk forms, hot lunch forms) will be posted for you to print off.
Throughout the year we will send physical copies of a school newsletter to all members.

Seasaw: Links to connect to your child’s journal were emailed to parents. Please check your email junk folder for these links and connect to each of your children’s teachers, so that the teachers can easily communicate with parents. This is an important, main form of communication for the teachers. If you have more than one child in one class, the link may be used more than once. If you have not seen and can not find your email link, please email the office.
Junior Soccer: Students in grades 4-6 who signed up for soccer will be practicing Monday at lunch and the tournament is to take place Thursday, September 17th at Chapples during the school day. Transportation will be provided with busses leaving the school around 9am and returning around 2pm. Please return your submission prior to the tournament.

The first day of school is quickly approaching!! We have been busy preparing for the students' return Tuesday, and we are looking forward to the halls being filled again!
A few important details:
- Students are expected to be in their classroom by 8:50am this year. If dropping your children off in the morning, please make sure they are at school on time.
- The opening assembly will take place on the first day, September 8th at 9:15, in the school gymnasium. Previously we had planned for this to be taking place at First Church, so please note this change in venue. Due to this limited space, there will be standing room only with limited seating for those unable to stand.
- Bus drivers have contacted parents with pickup times. If you have not been in contact with your bus driver yet, please reach out to the school.
- Emails were sent out last week and back in June with the list of supplies needed to purchase. Please make sure your children have what they need for their first week back. Contact the school if you have not received the list.
- The Universal Learning Centre (ULC) is up and running, directed by Lauren Allam, with a few minor finishing touches remaining. We are excited to welcome this program to our school and have the children enjoy and benefit from this space!
- Our Physical Education program will look a little different this year with a dedicated PE teacher, Melissa Staal, teaching all classes! We are excited to have her in this position, and for the students to have this opportunity!
*SOCCER: The SSSAA soccer tournaments will be taking place in mid-September and we would like to gauge interest from the students. Please ask your child(ren) in grades 4-8 if they might be interested in joining this team and let the school office know ASAP as we will need to register the teams on September 8th and begin practicing together immediately.
We've also made some changes to our daily schedule, with 3 nutrition/recess breaks instead of 2. The schedule for this school year is as follows:

Elementary track and field: The SSSAA meet is June 16 and 17 at 9:30 am. Since our school year has ended parents will be responsible for getting their kids to and from the stadium. We encourage students to come out and cheer on our athletes, but because of the strict supervision rules from SSSAA, our limited coaches cannot be responsible for any who are NOT a member of the TBCS team. If your child isn’t a registered athlete, a parent will have to stay and supervise them.
**Emails with further details regarding events and times have been sent home to grades 4+ for those students taking part in this event.
Twice As Nice: Please click the link below, or head to the school website and click "volunteer" to sign up for shift at Twice as Nice! There are many options for slots and even an hour or two helps tremendously! The pile that needs to be sorted is massive and many hands make light work!

Planning for next year: The school is currently budgeting and planning classes for the 26/27 school year under the assumption that current families and students will be returning, unless we hear otherwise.
