Highschool Bridge Projects

June 05, 2026

The Highschool students have been busy in tech class learning about the forces of tension and compression on structures. Students were given a list of parameters they had to work within, as well as a limited number of materials. Students were allowed to build any form of truss bridge with a deck for cars to drive across (hot wheels), and then were given 5 days of building/construction time. The test was to see how much weight the bridge would hold, and to see if their bridge held best under tension and compression. The highest weight was 135lb, then 110lb, then 105lb, 90lb (a tie with two bridges), 80lb, 45lb, and 20lb. The students did an excellent job in this unit!
